NICE

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) provides national guidance and advice to improve health and social care. They do this by:

  • Producing evidence based guidance and advice for health, public health and social care practitioners.
  • Developing quality standards and performance metrics for those providing and commissioning health, public health and social care services.
  • Providing a range of informational services for commissioners, practitioners and managers across the spectrum of health and social care.

As a professional network the ESPPN has registered as a stakeholder with NICE, for a number of areas of interest for our members, such as back pain, osteoarthritis and headaches.

At the beginning of the consultation process the ESPPN will be invited by NICE to make comments before the guideline or advice is fully published. Comments submitted by all registered stakeholders will be posted on the NICE website. We will invite all ESP members via email, to make comments before our final response is submitted to NICE.

Individual members can also become involved with NICE by joining a committee, attending meetings or by becoming an ambassador. The NICE website contains numerous guidelines and pathways that may be of interest to members.
